Nigel Royfee Commercial Manager, Thomson Reuters NZPresent:
Since 1997 I have held a number of different publishing and customer facing management roles at Thomson Reuters and now have responsibility for product development and other commercial activities, including magazine publishing and events.
I have been fortunate to have had quite wide ranging experience in publishing and consequently exposure to all facets of the publishing business. I love the blend of commercial and creative influences in publishing and the satisfaction of working on successful projects and publishing ventures.

Past:
I started out in legal practice, got involved with legal publishing in the United Kingdom, and have spent over 30 years in the publishing industry.

I was fortunate to be in the vanguard of online legal publishing when I worked for Butterworth Telepublishing in London in the early 1980s. Then in 1985 I joined Butterworths in Sydney to launch, market, and sell the Lexis online service in Australia and New Zealand.

I eventually worked with Butterworths Australia for over 10 years in a variety of publishing, sales, and marketing management roles before joining Fairfax (the newspaper publishers) in an online business management role.

In 1997 I took the opportunity of a job offer from Brookers (now Thomson Reuters) to return to New Zealand with my New Zealand wife and two young Aussie kids.

A major part of my focus is ensuring that our 40 in-house editorial staff, (spanning our legal, tax and accounting, as well as HR/OSH portfolios), are fully supported. What particularly interests me is the ever growing and broadening interface between law and technology. The potential and possibilities are exciting.

Based: Wellington, NZ

Helen Watts., HR Manager, Thomson Reuters NZPresent:
I arrived at Thomson Reuters NZ in 2006 to take up the Human Resources role. It's a position I am passionate about as I'm committed to maximising potential and opportunity, not just for myself, but for those I work with, and for, too.

Past:
My background is largely an 'education through experience'. I learned by doing, by saying YES to the opportunities presented to me.

I started in the UK as a sales secretary. In time I became a consultant for a government contracted financial bench marking company. In this role I traveled all over the UK advising tertiary educational institutions, colleges, universities, polytechnics, on financial 'best practice'.

When I arrived in New Zealand I once more became involved in administration. Whilst in Rotorua working for a forestry company, I was given the opportunity to step into HR. I love working within HR and have now gained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology.
